Hide and seek in Garonne
A spring afternoon means good cheer! Nature is coming back to life, and spring is bringing color to the landscapes of the Comminges region. Let’s go for two hours of trout fishing and exploring the aquatic environment. With our basket, fishing rod, landing net, waders, and bait, we’re ready to head to the Garonne.

A Fisherman’s Special Moment
Exploring your fishing spot begins with making your way through nature to reach the banks of the Garonne. Now the fishing can begin! The place is quiet and peaceful; nature offers me a special moment. The air is crisp, and at times a light breeze rustles the branches of the trees where the first buds are appearing. My eye is drawn to the part of the river with a steady current across its entire width—the perfect fishing spot!
In the crystal-clear waters of the Garonne
The fisherman gently casts his line, then wades step by step into the clear river water. It’s all in the movement: controlling the drift of his line in parallel patterns and following the currents—first close to him, then farther and farther out, where the trout are hiding…
My senses are alert; I soak up the calm that surrounds me. I hear the sound of the water and the birds (the finch, the blue-headed tit, the great tit, the blackcap, the blackbird, the wren…) who are also keeping an eye on the river while Iobserve this aquatic environment.
Her pretty red and black dress
The guide stops—that’s it, the first trout of the season has taken the bait! Quick—I have to land the fish before it thrashes around too much and falls back into the water. Its coloration is magnificent, marked with red and black spots ringed by lighter patches. It’s a source of pride, all the same, because at the start of the season, the trout are still sluggish from winter and aren’t really going after the bait. You have to be methodical and patient to entice them.
Trout spawn in the winter. First, they stir up the gravel to create a small depression that will serve as a hiding place for the eggs fertilized by the males. These eggs slip between the gravel and will hatch later.
