About
Farmhouse soaps made from the milk of Pyrenean donkeys from the Ferme d'Oulan Bat in Arbas
La Ferme d'Oulan Bât's soap is confidential ….. because it is produced in small quantities using high quality products!
Cold saponification is an age-old, traditional method of making superfatted soaps that are rich in natural glycerine and retain the benefits of the ingredients used. These soaps are ideal for sensitive skin.
Donkey's milk adds even more softness. Céline and Nicolas use only fresh milk from the farm. The donkeys are milked once a day for a few weeks when the foals are weaned. They use milking to gradually wean the foals and only take what they need. The foals are then trained to be sold as working donkeys from the age of 4. Donkey milk is rich in vitamins and minerals. It is highly moisturising and deeply nourishing for the skin. It soothes even the driest, most sensitive and reactive skin.
For the olive oil, Céline and Nicolas went to the Aude region to visit an organic farmer. Lionel produces a top-quality cold-pressed oil. As passionate about growing olive trees as he is about producing oil, this is an exceptional oil.
Céline and Nicolas produce their calendula on the farm using animal traction. It is hand-picked to produce their own oily macerate, and part of it is dried to embellish the calendula soap. This flower is renowned for its moisturising and antioxidant properties, which help to protect and soothe.
The activated vegetable charcoal they use comes from wood that has been carbonised and then steam-activated. The wood comes from French eco-managed forests certified PEFC and BIO.
They remove the lard when processing their pigs. They raise free-range Gascon pork solely for their own consumption and for the table d'hôte (Charcoal soap only).
The honey and beeswax come from producers in the village. It's a natural, traditional mountain honey.
Nicolas and Céline use Pyrenean thermal spring water from a nearby spring. It is reputed to be healing, perfect for fragile skin.
Sales: direct from the farm every day (by appointment) or by post and at La Boutique de l'Ot in Aspet, Saint-Martory and Salies-du-Salat.
