This play tells the poignant story of two children and how their friendship develops whilst they remain on the fringes of the class, whose pupils are often ruthless. It is a formative childhood story that comes back to Martin’s mind as an adult, and which is recounted to us.

When the children return from the Easter holidays, the school welcomes two new pupils: Martin and Simon, who become friends and are soon inseparable. But one day, Martin stands out at football and becomes the most popular boy in the class. Simon, on the other hand, has never experienced such popularity. He has no friends, and Martin soon goes along with the others’ opinion, turning his back on Simon too. It must be said that ever since Simon fell into the mud, Martin has been a bit ashamed: ‘Simon the Muddy’, a nickname that fits him like a glove, sticking to him like the mud from the pond.
