About
Les Nuits Fraîches – Today’s traditional music and the mountain music of tomorrow!
‘Les Nuits Fraîches’, focusing on today’s new scene in traditional music and the mountain music of tomorrow, which – through its reinterpretation of traditional instruments (electro-acoustic vielles, bohas, percussion) and through hybridisation with electronic and DIY instrument-making, invent a new kind of trance – a pop music that is intelligent, danceable, at times virtuosic and, above all… full of meaning and truth!
● 8.00 pm – Concert by the Puech Gourdon Duo: Yann GOURDON embodies the perfect revival of the hurdy-gurdy in France and across Europe. Whilst he takes it into repetitive, trance-like and indie realms that fall within the scope of contemporary music through his various projects, he is equally at home in the traditional and neo-traditional genres, as demonstrated here with Jacques PUECH, who, through his singing and cabrette playing, offers a revitalising reinterpretation of the musical tradition of the Massif Central, oscillating between tradition and modernity whilst embracing new sonic experiences. A duo who have performed at the Théâtre Garonne, Island Park (Toronto) and Le Lieu Unique (Nantes), and individually at Les Instants Chavirés (Paris), La Bâtie Festival (Geneva) and the Night of Surprise Festival (Cologne)…
● 10.00 pm – Concert by the group Kalakan: Hailing from the Basque Country, KALAKAN reinterprets traditional Basque music with raw, contemporary energy, retaining only the essentials: vibrant vocals, tribal percussion and ancestral melodies. Their minimalist sound, centred on the Basque language (Euskara) and traditional instruments (txalaparta, pandereta, tobera…), transforms the songs of the past into lively, hypnotic music. The trio burst onto the international scene, notably by accompanying MADONNA on her MDNA World Tour in 2012, and continues to surprise with its captivating creations, blending age-old tradition with cutting-edge modernity.
