Step back in time in Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges
Your journey begins in Antiquity, in the Roman city of Lugdunum, founded over 2,000 years ago… Even then, the city was prized for its ideal location at the foot of the Pyrenees, between plains and mountains! Want to know more about the ancient city of the Convenae? You can visit the beautiful Departmental Archaeological Museum or head straight to the Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges site. Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges has moved through time and eras with brilliance, but let’s face it, the medieval period clearly propelled the village to its peak! You’ll surely spot it as soon as you arrive: the imposing Sainte-Marie Cathedral majestically dominates the village and its surroundings. This architectural feat, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela, is not to be missed!

It’s easy to see why this is one of the most beautiful classical organs in Europe!
Slightly away from the town, your cultural walk continues to the Saint-Just de Valcabrère Basilica, one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in the region. Architecture lovers will be delighted to admire this perfect example of sobriety, and you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of the upper town and the Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges Cathedral.
