About
Welcome to our house nestling on the Col de Portet d'Aspet, just 1? hours from Toulouse and 1 hour from Spain. More than just a holiday rental, we invite you to take a break with your family or friends in the heart of the mountains, in a house filled with memories, nature and the peace and quiet of the great outdoors.
A PLACE OF REMEMBRANCE IN THE HEART OF THE PYRENEES
Built in 1866, our old barns have stood the test of time and still bear the traces of a unique history. During the Second World War, they were used as a refuge and are now known as the "Cabane des Evadés". A number of monuments and testimonies can be seen in the surrounding area, reminders of this emotionally-charged past and an opportunity to discover a place where history and mountains meet.
A NATURAL SETTING FOR FAMILY GET-TOGETHERS
At an altitude of 1100 metres, right in the heart of the Central Pyrenees, the house enjoys an unspoilt environment bathed in sunshine. From both the terrace and the windows, you can see Mont Valier and the Pic du Cagire. From the doorstep, nature lovers can explore the paths leading to the Puech, the Col des Passagers, the Pic de Paloumère, the Crête de Cornudère, the Cabane du Piejau and the Pic de la Calabasse.
Access to the property is via a 200-metre private carriageway, the start of which links up with the famous GR78, on the route to Santiago de Compostela. It's an arrival that already gives you the feeling of leaving everyday life behind and entering a different, simpler and more soothing rhythm.
A FAMILY HOME COMBINING AUTHENTICITY AND COMFORT
The 110 m² house is made up of two barns that have been harmoniously combined. On one side, an old sheepfold dating from 1866, with its stone walls preserved in their original state; on the other, a part rebuilt in the 2000s, designed as a cosy chalet where the wood, light and spaciousness immediately invite you to relax.
In the old wing, the family kitchen is arranged around a large fireplace that makes you want to extend your meals and evenings. Fully equipped, everything is provided for easy cooking after a day in the mountains. Basic condiments, such as oil, vinegar and spices, are also kept on hand to simplify the family's stay.
Please note: the upper floor of this wing will remain closed during your stay.
Following on from this, the contemporary wing houses a vast, light-filled living room, arranged over two half-levels. The large dining room table is the natural setting for lively meals, board games and socialising. The living room, with its two sofas, one of which converts into a bed, its connected TV and its central designer stove, offers a soft, cocooning atmosphere after days spent exploring the Pyrenees.
Upstairs, two mezzanines, which can be darkened, each house a double bed (140cm) and storage space. Young parents will also find a cot and all the equipment they need to travel lighter and make the most of their family holiday. The bathroom has a shower, washbasin, washing machine and separate WC.
EXTERIORS DESIGNED TO MAKE THE MOST OF THE PYRENEES
Outside, the south-facing panoramic terrace quickly becomes the heart of the house in fine weather. Partly shaded, it's perfect for a sunny lunch or dinner overlooking the mountains. Two garden tables, a relaxation area and a barbecue are available to make the most of the long summer days.
In the evening, the magic of the place often works in silence: with a little discretion, it's not uncommon to spot deer grazing in the neighbouring meadow, to the delight of children and parents alike.
We also have a Molkky, petanque balls, board games, books and IGN maps to help you plan your next family outing.
SERVICES FOR A WORRY-FREE STAY
So that you can settle in as soon as you arrive, the beds are made up with care and the household linen, sheets and towels are included. The house is also equipped with fibre optics and high-speed WiFi, ideal for occasional teleworking, film evenings or the whole family's digital needs.
Above all, we want to share this little corner of paradise with people who love the mountains, nature and heritage, who are sensitive to the history of the place and who are happy to enjoy a simple, authentic and rejuvenating stay together.
Nearby, on the Ariège side, you can discover the charming village of Portet d'Aspet, the Couserans, Saint-Lary, the Bellongue valley, Castillon, Lake Bethmale, Saint-Girons and Saint-Dizier.
On the Haute-Garonne side, the landscapes of the Comminges will take you to the Col de Menté, the Pic du Cagire, the Spanish border, the Col des Ares, Aspet, Saint-Gaudens and Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges.
