The Augustan trophy of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges : Exceptional composition of mannequins of weapons, captives and captives sculpted in the round, the trophy of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges was raised around 16 BC after the victories of Augustus on the Aquitans in Gaul, the Cantabrians and the Astures in Spain. Built at the time when the emperor was undertaking the administrative reorganisation of Gaul, it bears witness to one of the great moments in the history of Gaul and of the city of Confort.
This vast sculpted ensemble brought together in the same monument a trophy evoking Augustus' naval victory at Actium (in 31 BC) which marked the beginning of his principate, and two land trophies.
Lugdunum des Convènes: monumental history of a Roman city
Temple, theatre, market and thermal baths made the Pyrenean Lugdunum a small provincial Rome at the time of the "Roman peace". In late antiquity, major constructions modified the urban landscape: the upper city walls, the Christian basilica, the forum.
