About
Commissioned in 1941, the Portillon power station is fed by water from the Portillon lake (at an altitude of 2,580 m) and the Lac Bleu lake (at an altitude of 2,265 m).
The water is conveyed via underground galleries to a 1,419 m high penstock, the largest in France, which feeds the power station's turbines. The facility is part of EDF's Luchon-Cierp plant group, which comprises several power stations and dams in the region, producing around 370 GWh annually, equivalent to the consumption of 153,000 inhabitants.
It is located next to the Cascade d'Enfer.
