About
Summer 1799: the last gasp of the French Revolution, a royalist revolt breaks out. After attempting to take Toulouse, the royalists made their way up the Garonne, closely followed by Republican troops. Come and spend a weekend discovering this little-known part of Comminge history.
You can visit the bivouac of the Royalists and the Republicans, and every day there is an evocation of daily life at the end of the 18th century. But be warned: underneath the apparent calm, the two sides are chasing each other in the surrounding area, and it's not impossible to come across troops on the roads…
Over the 2 days : Camp life: cooking, armoury, daily activities, Tavern with its news: throughout the day, proclamation of the latest news concerning the royalist uprisings. Episodically, the public will be able to follow the events of 1799 as they unfold.
Saturday :
10am departure of the troops from Saint-Martory in the direction of Arnaud-Guilhem, the Republicans are pursued by the Royalists.
1.30pm: the camp opens to the public,
5pm one of the camps retreats to the abbey, the camp is stormed and taken,
7.30pm demonstration of Occitan dance,
8pm Meal – paying and on reservation,
8.30pm Folk show with LES TROUBADOURS DU COMMINGES
Sunday :
7am: raising of the troops, skirmishes between Proupiary and the abbey,
1:30 pm opening of the camp to the public,
5 p.m. end of camp.
