History and architecture lovers won\u2019t be mistaken: the <strong>collegiate church, dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Gaudens,<\/strong> is a true masterpiece of Romanesque art, built between the 11th and 12th centuries.<br\/>Your immersion in the Romanesque world begins as soon as you arrive in front of this Historic Monument, listed since 1841. Walk around the church and take the time to observe all the details that add to the charm and renown of <strong>Saint-Pierre Church<\/strong>. Before discovering the interior, look up to admire the superb chrism on the tympanum just above the building\u2019s north portal.   <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-group alignfull pattern-quote has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Admire the treasures of the Saint-Pierre Collegiate Church<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The least you can say is that <strong>Saint-Pierre Church<\/strong> in <strong>Saint-Gaudens<\/strong> has plenty going for it\u2014quite the opposite of lacking! The bell tower of <strong>Saint-Pierre<\/strong> is particularly impressive at 45 metres high, and houses 36 bells\u2026 The largest, nicknamed the <strong>Gaudense,<\/strong> weighs 1,130 kg on its own. The collegiate church\u2019s bells are an integral part of the town and set the rhythm of daily life for residents!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collegiate church has a <strong>remarkable set of historiated capitals<\/strong>, mainly dating from the <strong>11th and 12th centuries<\/strong>. Located in the choir and side aisles, these capitals are <strong>finely decorated with biblical motifs, fantastic animals and symbolic scenes<\/strong>, illustrating the Romanesque art of Comminges.<br\/>These capitals are among the heritage features that make the collegiate church unique, and they are often cited by art historians for their rich iconography and excellent state of preservation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inside the church, visitors will be left breathless by the incredible Aubusson tapestries\u2014priceless treasures that add to the beauty of <strong>the Saint-Pierre collegiate church<\/strong> and are a source of pride for everyone in <strong>Saint-Gaudens<\/strong>. They were woven by <strong>the famous Royal Aubusson Manufactory<\/strong> during the 18th century and are in a remarkable state of preservation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Another lovely feature to admire is the organ case, listed as a <strong>Historic Monument<\/strong> since 1971.
